Introduction to ASP (Application Service Providing)
The word ASP is central within ICTricity. Cu4IT offers a broad range of services extending the term ASP with ICTricity. The combinations in ICTricity of central services and support on-site create an easy to use and to deploy solution. We will explain ASP to you and how we extend this service. ICTricity will be shaped to fit your organization.
ASP Service delivery: what is it?
ICTricity is a form of ASP. ASP stands for Application Service Providing. Simply put, it means that certain IT functionalities are delivered as a service over the network by an ASP provider. In most cases these are IT contracts based on the number of PC's and servers. As a customer you will be charged for the maintenance of your own IT supplies. With ASP the number of users in relation with the delivered functionalities is the main case. You will pay for what you use and don't have to worry about the central server systems.
As a customer you will use existing items in our data centers. This rules out investments in hardware and software and prevents an in-house implementation of an IT environment.
ASP has, in the case of Cu4IT, another important quality: the different functionalities can be delivered on any place where there is internet available. The functionality becomes location-independent. Working at home or having multiple offices will no longer require installing additional IT components, but will in most cases be a case of using the existing internet connection most people have nowadays. The services also work perfectly with modern mobile connections like UMTS and HDSPA. For email even GSM and GPRS networks suffice.
Advantages?
What makes this new form of service delivery so handy? It highly depends on the services you as a customer choose and the situation you are currently in and used to. An employee who is mostly abroad and wants to be able to use company systems will appreciate the mobile character of ASP. Employees who are mostly working from a fixed place will like the idea they can access and use their workstation from home. The main aspect that can be very profitable is the scalability of ASP: what you don't use, you don't pay for. Every workspace can be composed of these functions that are required. It gives you the chance to apply your IT budget only to the needs of your users and the flexible properties give you the chance to evolve the way you use IT to the most optimal situation.
